CDFA secretary Karen Ross and the Netherlands assistant vice minister for agriculture, Guido Landheer, met today in Fresno to sign a letter of intent renewing an international collaboration that began in 2015. The parties agreed to exchange knowledge and expertise to work towards climate smart agriculture by fostering innovation and sharing ag technology solutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe ongoing collaboration that exists between the Netherlands and\nCalifornia speaks to our innovative spirit and shared understanding of the\nimportance of this work,\u201d said Secretary Ross. \u201cIn connecting from different\nparts of the world, we share not only what we have learned, but collectively\naim for global solutions to address climate change, and ensure resiliency and\nagricultural sustainability worldwide.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The signing was part of a visit from a Dutch government delegation to California\u2019s Central Valley. The goal of this visit is to further develop ideas for a Dutch ag tech presence in California. California and Dutch stakeholders \u2014 including the <a href=\"https:\/\/ucanr.edu\/\">University of California Agriculture and Natural Resources<\/a> (UCANR) and <a href=\"http:\/\/fme.nl\">FME<\/a>, the entrepreneurial organization for the Dutch technology industry \u2014 also met as part of a roundtable meeting to discuss opportunities for digitalization and automation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/plantingseedsblog.cdfa.ca.gov\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/The-whole-gang-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-19564\" width=\"529\" height=\"397\" srcset=\"https:\/\/plantingseedsblog.cdfa.ca.gov\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/The-whole-gang-1.jpg 640w, https:\/\/plantingseedsblog.cdfa.ca.gov\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/The-whole-gang-1-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 529px) 100vw, 529px\" \/><figcaption> In addition to Secretary Ross, the CDFA contingent included science adviser Dr. Amrith Gunasekara (far right) and deputy secretary Arturo Barajas (third from right).
