The U.S. Department of Agriculture\u2019s\nNational Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) is gathering information about\nfarm economics and production practices from farmers and ranchers across\nCalifornia, as the agency conducts the third and final phase of the 2019\nAgricultural Resource Management Survey (ARMS). <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cARMS is the only survey that measures\nthe current financial well-being of California producers and their households\nas a whole,\u201d said Gary R. Keough, Director, USDA NASS Pacific Region..<\/em>\n\u201cThe results of this survey will help inform decisions on local and federal\npolicies and programs that affect California farms and farm families.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In an effort to obtain the most accurate\ndata, NASS is reaching out to more than 30,000 producers nationwide, including\nover 2,500 in California. The survey asks producers to provide in-depth\ninformation about their operating revenues, production costs, and household\ncharacteristics. The 2019 survey includes versions focused on barley, cotton,\nand sorghum sector costs and returns. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIn\nFebruary, our interviewers will begin reaching out to those farmers who have\nnot yet responded,\u201d said Keough. \u201cWe appreciate their time and are here to help\nthem with the questionnaire so that their information will continue supporting\nsound agricultural decision-making.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition to producing accurate\ninformation, NASS has strong safeguards in place to protect the confidentiality\nof all farmers who respond to its surveys. The agency will only publish data in\nan aggregate form, ensuring the confidentiality of all responses and that no\nindividual respondent or operation can be\nidentified.         <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The expense data gathered in\nARMS will be published in the annual Farm Production Expenditures<\/em> report\non July 31, 2020.  That report and others are available at www.nass.usda.gov<\/a>\/Publications.
