One of CDFA&#8217;s roles is to collect and preserve these &#8220;reference collections&#8221; so that scientists, farmers and other stakeholders can accurately and quickly identify an organism to determine whether it is a pest or a beneficial insect, or whether it is a native or invasive organism. The diverse audience ranged from families with children, to young adults and students, to very interested retirees and citizen scientists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>CDFA&#8217;s collaboration with the university&#8217;s Bohart Museum of Entomology is indicative of the productive relationship the two organizations have across a broad range of scientific specialties relating to agriculture and the environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/plantingseedsblog.cdfa.ca.gov\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/UCD-Biodiversity-Day-Pic1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-20305\" width=\"596\" srcset=\"https:\/\/plantingseedsblog.cdfa.ca.gov\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/UCD-Biodiversity-Day-Pic1.jpg 922w, https:\/\/plantingseedsblog.cdfa.ca.gov\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/UCD-Biodiversity-Day-Pic1-300x229.jpg 300w, https:\/\/plantingseedsblog.cdfa.ca.gov\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/UCD-Biodiversity-Day-Pic1-768x586.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 922px) 100vw, 922px\" \/><figcaption><em>The displays included showy exotic insects, as well as pests of agricultural significance like the Asian citrus psyllid (ACP) and spotted lanternfly, to various honey bee pests.
