SBA\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sba.gov\/disaster\">EIDL portal will\nreopen today<\/a> as a result of funding\nauthorized by Congress through the <em>Paycheck Protection Program and\nHealthcare Enhancement Act. <\/em>The legislation, signed into law by the\nPresident one week ago, provided additional funding for farmers and ranchers\nand certain other agricultural businesses affected by the Coronavirus\n(COVID-19) pandemic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cFor more than 30 years, SBA has been\nprohibited by law from providing disaster assistance to agricultural\nbusinesses; however, as a result of the unprecedented legislation enacted by\nPresident Trump, American farmers, ranchers and other agricultural businesses\nwill now have access to emergency working capital,\u201d said Administrator\nCarranza. \u201cThese low-interest, long-term loans will help keep agricultural\nbusinesses viable while bringing stability to the nation\u2019s vitally important\nfood supply chains.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Agricultural businesses include\nbusinesses engaged in the legal production of food and fiber, ranching, and\nraising of livestock, aquaculture, and all other farming and agricultural\nrelated industries (<em>as defined by section 18(b) of the Small Business Act\n(15 U.S.C. 647(b)<\/em>). Eligible agricultural businesses must have 500 or fewer\nemployees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The\nSBA will begin accepting new EIDL applications on a limited basis only, in\norder to provide unprecedented relief to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sba.gov\/disaster\">U.S. agricultural businesses<\/a>. For\nagricultural businesses that submitted an EIDL loan application through the\nstreamlined application portal prior to the legislative change, SBA will move\nforward and process these applications without the need for re-applying.
