{"id":22046,"date":"2020-10-20T07:58:19","date_gmt":"2020-10-20T14:58:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/plantingseedsblog.cdfa.ca.gov\/wordpress\/?p=22046"},"modified":"2020-10-20T08:27:56","modified_gmt":"2020-10-20T15:27:56","slug":"fresno-state-celebrates-food-family-farm-month","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/plantingseedsblog.cdfa.ca.gov\/wordpress\/index.php\/2020\/10\/20\/fresno-state-celebrates-food-family-farm-month\/","title":{"rendered":"Fresno State celebrates Food, Family &#038; Farm Month"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong><em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.morningagclips.com\/fresno-state-celebrates-food-family-farm-month\/\">Story from Morning Ag Clips<\/a><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/fresnostate.edu\/jcast\/\">Jordan College of Agricultural Sciences and Technology<\/a>&nbsp;at Fresno State is launching its second annual&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/bit.ly\/FS20-f3-month-events\">Food, Family and Farm Month<\/a>&nbsp;with a host of virtual events to connect Fresno State students, staff and faculty to the agricultural industry and the community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The schedule will feature 25 activities from&nbsp;<strong>Monday, Oct. 19<\/strong>&nbsp;to&nbsp;<strong>Nov. 20<\/strong>&nbsp;that will showcase the Jordan College\u2019s seven academic departments, three research centers, student organizations,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.fresnostate.edu\/agf\/farmlab\/\">University Agricultural Laboratory<\/a>&nbsp;and industry partners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jordan College Dean\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/fresnostate.edu\/jcast\/faculty-staff\/dennis-nef.html\">Dennis Nef<\/a>\u00a0kicked off the month of activities with a virtual event on <strong>Monday, Oct. 19<\/strong>\u00a0featuring student-produced items available at the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.fresnostate.edu\/agf\/farmmarket\/\">Gibson Farm Market<\/a>. The series will conclude with a virtual \u201cWine Down\u201d wine-tasting event on\u00a0<strong>Nov. 19<\/strong>\u00a0that will spotlight award-winning wines and specials from the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/store.fresnostatewinery.com\/\">Fresno State Winery<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Most of the Food, Family and Farm Month activities are virtual and free to the public. Topics include seminars on grape and wine topics, irrigation and water management technologies, weed management and the grape and wine industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Food, Family and Farm Month was inspired by the campus&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.fresnostate.edu\/jcast\/agonefoundation\/fantasyvactation.html\">Ag One Foundation<\/a>,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.fresnostate.edu\/jcast\/cit\/\">Center for Irrigation Technology<\/a>,&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.fresnostate.edu\/jcast\/ifa\/\">Institute for Food and Agriculture<\/a>&nbsp;and the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.fresnostate.edu\/jcast\/ve\/research\/\">Viticulture and Enology Research Center<\/a>. Each of these entities will host multiple events during the month to showcase innovative technology and practices, projects and industry partners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>The Institute for Food and Agriculture will host its 39th annual Agribusiness Management Conference on seven Wednesday and Thursday sessions between\u00a0<strong>Oct<\/strong> <strong>28<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>Nov. 19.\u00a0<\/strong>Topics will target agricultural trends related to economics, sustainability, food security, wine marketing, food service, artificial intelligence and big data, and a national student agricultural accreditation program being developed by Fresno State faculty, staff and students.<\/li><li>The Center for Irrigation Technology will host two webinars on\u00a0<strong>Oct 22<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>Nov. 18<\/strong>\u00a0on irrigation performance systems and irrigation system remote monitoring to save energy and water. The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wetcenter.org\/\">Water, Energy and Technology Center<\/a>\u00a0will feature industry leaders presenting on topics on\u00a0<strong>Oct. 23<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>Nov. 20<\/strong>\u00a0related to California agriculture and the irrigation industry.<\/li><li>The Viticulture and Research Center is hosting two crowdfunding campaigns, and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.fresnostate.edu\/jcast\/ve\/\">the Department of Viticulture and Enology<\/a>\u00a0is hosting several events, including its free weekly webinar series featuring industry experts.<\/li><li>The Ag One Foundation will feature several events tying together alumni and industry members in support of campus agricultural programs, including the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.fresnostate.edu\/jcast\/agonefoundation\/turfday.html\">49th Annual Turf Day Golf Classic<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.fresnostate.edu\/jcast\/agonefoundation\/fantasyvactation.html\">Fantasy Vacation Giveaway<\/a>, as well as participation in the annual University-wide\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/dayofgiving.fresnostate.edu\/\">Day of Giving<\/a>.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The three research centers fall under the auspices of the&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.fresnostate.edu\/jcast\/cati\/index.html\">California Agricultural Technology Institute<\/a>&nbsp;within the Jordan College. Together they serve the agricultural industry by engaging with the industry; performing applied research and testing on a wide range of disciplines and topics; and disseminating results through conferences, workshops and meetings.
