As a result, farmers are sequestering more carbon, increasing water infiltration, improving wildlife and pollinator habitat\u2014all while harvesting better profits and often better yields,\u201d they report.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Soil Health Institute, charged with safeguarding and enhancing the vitality and productivity of soils, and members of the agriculture industry held their 6th annual meeting (last) week\u00a0by offering a\u00a0variety of plenary sessions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re at a critical juncture in the fight against climate change,\u201d according to the Institute\u2019s CEO, Dr. Wayne Honeycutt, who said recent science behind soil health could empower implementation of practices that would not only benefit farmers livelihoods, but significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions and nutrient runoff.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pretty much everyone agreed that health soils were the foundation for rejuvenating the land to mitigate the effects of climate change and help agriculture meet both environmental and production goals at scale.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.farmprogress.com\/soil-health\/improving-soil-health-would-benefit-climate-experts-say?NL=WFP-01&amp;Issue=WFP-01_20210813_WFP-01_330&amp;sfvc4enews=42&amp;cl=article_1&amp;utm_rid=CPG02000002507217&amp;utm_campaign=61123&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;elq2=cf8b75b6e5924e5fba57d952c4d6a941\">Read more here<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Note &#8212; The 6th annual meeting of the Soil Health Institute was held last week.
