{"id":23299,"date":"2021-09-07T14:50:42","date_gmt":"2021-09-07T21:50:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/plantingseedsblog.cdfa.ca.gov\/wordpress\/?p=23299"},"modified":"2021-09-07T14:54:20","modified_gmt":"2021-09-07T21:54:20","slug":"usda-to-invest-50-million-in-new-cooperative-agreements-for-racial-justice-and-equity-online-workshop-coming-next-week","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/plantingseedsblog.cdfa.ca.gov\/wordpress\/index.php\/2021\/09\/07\/usda-to-invest-50-million-in-new-cooperative-agreements-for-racial-justice-and-equity-online-workshop-coming-next-week\/","title":{"rendered":"USDA to invest $50 million in new cooperative agreements for racial justice and equity conservation &#8212; online workshop coming next week"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The USDA is <a href=\"https:\/\/teams.microsoft.com\/dl\/launcher\/launcher.html?url=%2F_%23%2Fl%2Fmeetup-join%2F19%3Ameeting_Y2NiYzhiYTctZTkwZC00NmQ2LWJlM2MtN2M4NGM3NjUxMTI1%40thread.v2%2F0%3Fcontext%3D%257b%2522Tid%2522%253a%2522ed5b36e7-01ee-4ebc-867e-e03cfa0d4697%2522%252c%2522Oid%2522%253a%252261ab1fa5-0799-4f42-bb3d-5fca453d8137%2522%257d%26anon%3Dtrue&amp;type=meetup-join&amp;deeplinkId=67d7959a-f5bd-473f-afba-21d967034186&amp;directDl=true&amp;msLaunch=true&amp;enableMobilePage=true&amp;suppressPrompt=true\">hosting an online workshop<\/a> on September 13 for prospective applicants for cooperative agreements to support historically underserved farmers and ranchers with climate-smart agriculture and forestry. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Racial Justice and Equity Conservation Cooperative Agreements are available to entities and individuals for two-year projects that expand the delivery of conservation assistance to farmers who are beginning, have limited resources, are socially disadvantaged, or are veterans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Eligible projects include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Improvement of soil health;<\/li><li>Improvement of water quality;<\/li><li>Providing habitat for local wildlife species of concern;<\/li><li>Improvement of the environmental and economic performance of working agricultural land; and<\/li><li>Building and strengthening local food projects that provide healthy food and economic opportunities.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Projects should remove barriers to access and reach historically underserved groups through a combination of program outreach and technical assistance in managing natural resources that address one or more of the following four Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) priority areas:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Addressing local natural resource issues;<\/li><li>Using climate-smart agriculture practices and principles;<\/li><li>Encouraging existing and new partnerships; and<\/li><li>Developing state and community-led conservation leadership for historically underserved agricultural producers, including educating and training students for careers in natural resources management.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Who Is Eligible<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Entities and individuals who provide outreach assistance to historically underserved groups are eligible, including:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Native American tribal governments and organizations<\/li><li>Nonprofit organizations<\/li><li>Private and public institutions of higher education<\/li><li>Individuals<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>How to Apply<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Applications must be received by 11:59 p.m. Eastern Standard Time on October 25, 2021.
