{"id":3279,"date":"2013-01-29T10:34:37","date_gmt":"2013-01-29T17:34:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/plantingseedsblog.cdfa.ca.gov\/wordpress\/?p=3279"},"modified":"2013-01-29T11:17:49","modified_gmt":"2013-01-29T18:17:49","slug":"excellent-examples-californias-partnership-usda","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/plantingseedsblog.cdfa.ca.gov\/wordpress\/index.php\/2013\/01\/29\/excellent-examples-californias-partnership-usda\/","title":{"rendered":"Census of Agriculture, Microloan Program Excellent Examples of the Value of USDA&#8217;s Partnership With California"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Two recent announcements by the USDA remind us all of the agency\u2019s value as a federal partner in food and agricultural production.\u00a0 The USDA assists Californians in a variety of ways, from producer insurance programs to school nutrition and food security for needy families.<\/p>\n<p>One announcement was a reminder that February 4 is the deadline to respond to the 2012 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.agcensus.usda.gov\/\">Census of Agriculture<\/a>, which the USDA conducts every five years to provide detailed data covering nearly every facet of U.S. agriculture. Decision makers at the local and national levels use the data to make decisions that directly impact farmers, their operations and their communities. The Census matters. I urge all California producers to follow through with this if they haven\u2019t already done so.<\/p>\n<p>The other announcement was tailored to new farmers and ranchers, a program called <a href=\"http:\/\/www.usda.gov\/wps\/portal\/usda\/usdahome?contentid=2013\/01\/0010.xml\">Microloan<\/a> to help with credit needs of $35,000 or less. The USDA believes the loans could be helpful for start-up operations selling at farmers\u2019 markets or through community supported-agriculture (CSAs).
