CDFA receives funding for this grant program from the U.S. Department of Agriculture through its Agricultural Marketing Service.<\/p>\n<p>The competitive process begins with submission of concept proposals by eligible  non-profit organizations; local, state and federal government entities, including tribal governments; for-profit organizations; and public and private colleges and\u00a0 universities.\u00a0 Successful applicants will be invited to participate in phase two of the process, submission of a grant proposal.<\/p>\n<p>Applicants must access the Notice of Funding Availability (NOFA) at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cdfa.ca.gov\/grants\">www.cdfa.ca.gov\/grants<\/a> for detailed instructions.\u00a0 To streamline and expedite the application process, CDFA is partnering with the California State Water Resources Control Board, which hosts an online application site using the Financial Assistance Application Submittal Tool (FAAST).\u00a0 All applicants must register for a FAAST account at <a href=\"https:\/\/faast.waterboards.ca.gov\">https:\/\/faast.waterboards.ca.gov<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>All concept proposals must be submitted electronically using FAAST by Monday,  December 12, 2011 at 5 p.m. PST.<\/p>\n<p>For the  purposes of this program, specialty crops are defined as fruits and vegetables,  tree nuts, dried fruits, horticulture and nursery crops (including  floriculture).<\/p>\n<p>Prospective  applicants may contact CDFA\u2019s Federal Funds Management Office at 916-657-3231  or <a href=\"mailto:grants@cdfa.ca.gov\">grants@cdfa.ca.gov<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA) is now accepting proposals for the 2012 Specialty Crop Block Grant Program, which is designed to enhance the competitiveness of the Golden State\u2019s specialty crops.
